What Is Export Freight Forwarding?
Export freight forwarding is the coordination of outbound cargo shipments from Australia to overseas buyers and partners — managing carrier bookings, export documentation, customs lodgement, and origin handling so your goods reach their destination on time and fully compliant.
Whether you are exporting for the first time or managing an established international trading relationship, Synergy Freight Management provides end-to-end export logistics across air, sea, and multimodal freight options.
Export Freight Options
- Sea freight (FCL): Full container loads for large volumes — 20ft and 40ft containers on regular liner services to ports worldwide.
- Sea freight (LCL): Shared container space for smaller consignments, consolidated at origin and deconsolidated at destination.
- Air freight: Express and standard air cargo services for time-sensitive, high-value, or perishable shipments.
- Break bulk and out-of-gauge: Flat-rack, open-top, or project cargo solutions for machinery, vehicles, and oversized equipment.
- Dangerous goods (DG): Export of IMDG and IATA-classified goods with compliant declarations and carrier approvals.
The Export Process — Step by Step
- Pre-shipment planning: We review your sales contract and Incoterms to determine your obligations as exporter — who pays freight, who arranges insurance, and what documentation is required at destination.
- Cargo booking: We secure space on the most appropriate vessel or aircraft for your cargo type, volume, and target arrival date.
- Export documentation: We review and check your export documentation such as your commercial invoice, packing list, and any certificates required by the destination country — including Certificates of Origin, Phytosanitary Certificates, and fumigation certificates.
- Australian export customs: We lodge your export declaration with Australian Border Force via the Integrated Cargo System (ICS). Certain commodities — food, agricultural products, controlled goods — require permits or regulatory clearances before export.
- Origin handling: We arrange pick-up from your warehouse or factory, delivery to the port or airport, and confirm cargo is loaded as booked.
- Transit monitoring: We track your shipment and advise of any delays, transhipments, or changes that may affect the buyer’s delivery window.
- Post-shipment documentation: We issue the appropriate Bills of Lading or Airway Bills required and coordinate courier delivery to your buyer or their bank, including any Letter of Credit documentary requirements.
Export Documentation We Manage
- Commercial Invoice and Packing List: Accurate descriptions, values, and HS codes — critical for correct duty assessment at the destination country.
- Bill of Lading / Airway Bill: The carrier’s document of title, issued after loading is confirmed.
- Export Entry (ICS): Mandatory declaration lodged with Australian Border Force for controlled or high-value exports.
- Certificate of Origin: Required by buyers in countries with Free Trade Agreement preferences — ChAFTA, AUSFTA, CPTPP — to claim reduced import duties.
- Phytosanitary Certificate: Issued by the Department of Agriculture for raw plant-based products, seeds, timber, and agricultural commodities.
- Letter of Credit documents: If your buyer is paying via LC, we ensure all documents conform to the credit terms and coordinate presentation through your bank.

Why Choose Synergy Freight Management for Exports?
Exporting from Australia involves regulatory requirements that vary by commodity and destination country. Errors in documentation — wrong HS codes, missing certificates, incorrect values — cause delays, penalties, and damaged buyer relationships. Synergy Freight Management’s in-house customs brokerage expertise means we identify compliance requirements before your cargo ships, not after it arrives at destination.
- Licensed customs broker: We handle Australian export compliance and can advise on destination country import requirements.
- Competitive rates: Carrier-neutral sourcing across shipping lines, airlines, and consolidators.
- Documentation accuracy: Precise commercial invoices and HS code classification reduce the risk of duty disputes at destination.
- FTA expertise: We identify and prepare the correct Certificate of Origin to maximise your buyer’s duty savings.
- One contact, end to end: From pick-up at your door to proof of delivery overseas — one team managing the whole movement.
